How to change your address on your driver's license in Massachusetts
If you currently live in Massachusetts and want to change your address or plan to do so eventually you must update the address information on your license, vehicle registration and title certificate.
How to notify the DMV about your change of address:
You will have 30 days to let the Massachusetts driver license division know about your change of residence, and to obtain a replacement driver license.
It's a pretty simple process to let the registry of motor vehicles know. You can choose to make the change in person, via mail, telephone, or online.
How to change your address:
- By phone: If you have a new digital photo license, you can phone in your change at (617) 351-4500. You can either attach a change of address label to your license for no fee or pay $20 to have an amended license sent to you.
- By mail: You'll want to download the change of address form.Complete and mail the form to the following address:

Make sure to include your name, date of birth, license number, any plates registered in your name, and your old and new addresses.
If you are requesting a new license to be sent to you please enclose a $20 check payable to the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles.
- In person:
You will need to download the change of address form and complete it.
Bring it to your local registry of motor vehicles office. You can also get a form there. You can pay $20 for a new license or use a change of address sticker on your current license, for no fee.
