Change Address on License
If you have recently undergone a move to or within the state of Kentucky, then you must notify a wide variety of important parties within the state of your new residence. Consider how many different entities you receive mail from on a regular basis. Each of these parties must be notified about your official address change so that they can continue to send you important notices and other such correspondences that you are subscribed to receive.
To begin, you will have to notify the US Postal Service of your address changing. Once that is done, you can move on to your bank, credit card company and more. However, it is especially important to keep one party in mind when submitting address change requests: the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. The KY TC handles drivers licenses, vehicle registration documents and more. Therefore, to ensure that you receive every drivers license renewal notice, registration renewal letter and more, you must take the time to update your address on their records. And there is only one way that you can do so, by applying in person at a local circuit clerk's office.
How to Change Address on Drivers Licenses in Person
As mentioned before, there is only one way to submit DMV address change forms in KY, and that is to do so in person. You will not be able to make an address change request online or by mail. Furthermore, after you have completed your official address change, you will only have 10 days to change address on DMV documents before you incur late fees.
When you visit your local circuit clerk's office, be sure to provide all of the following:
- Proof of your Kentucky residency, such as:
- A utility bill
- A mortgage document
- P.O. boxes will not be accepted as addresses.
- Social Security cards will also not be accepted to prove your address.
- Proof of your name change, if applicable, such as:
- A marriage certificate
- A divorce decree
- A court order
- Payment for the $12 duplicate drivers license, which will show your updated address
Once you have submitted all of the necessary paperwork and the payment for the KY drivers license replacement, the KY TC will update the address on your driving document.
How to Change Address on Drivers Licenses by Mail
In the state of Kentucky, drivers are required to renew and replace drivers license documents in person at their circuit clerk's offices. As submitting an address change request to update your driving license requires you to apply for a drivers license replacement in Kentucky, you must follow the requirements for replacing. However, by law, the state allows you to apply for a duplicate drivers license by mail if you are a member of the military. Therefore, as long as you are a member of the military and are on active duty out-of-state, you will have no problem requesting an official drivers license copy with your updated address by mail.
Simply contact your local circuit clerk's office to find out more information and request a KY drivers license replacement application.
