Change Address on License
The Hawaii DMV is one of the first parties a driver must notify about a recent address change. If you have recently moved from one location to another within the state, you will need to update this information at your local driving license office.
How to Change Address on Drivers License in Person
Depending on what part of Hawaii you reside in, the steps to complete an address change may vary. Every county in the state has a different list of steps necessary to ensure a motor vehicle change of address, so you must learn about the proper instructions outlined by your local DMV. While some require a vehicle driver to submit an address changing request in person or by mail, one provides a customer service phone line for such queries.
For Residents of Hawaii County and Honolulu County
If you are a driver who resides in Hawaii or Honolulu, then you will have to follow a particular set of instructions to change the address on your driver's license. The first required step to change the address on your license in Hawaii County or Honolulu County is to write a letter to the DMV. Your letter must contain important personal information that not only identifies you, but also lists your new residential address. Make sure it includes:
- Your name (as it shows on your license)
- Your license number
- Your date of birth
- Your old address
- Your new address
Once you have all of the necessary information, you can sign and mail the letter to either: Driver License Section, 349 Kapiolani Street, Hilo, HI 96720 (if you live in Hawaii County) or Driver License Section, P.O. Box 30340, Honolulu, HI 96820 (if you live in Honolulu County).
For Residents of Maui County
If you want to change the address on your Hawaii driver's license in Maui, then you must fill out a Notice of Change of Address Form and mail it or drop it off at a local Division of Motor Vehicle and Licensing office.
When filling out the Notice of Change of Address form, you must include your current mailing address that is on record with the DMV, and thereafter state your new address. If this address is different from your mailing, make sure to note it on the form.
For identity purposes, you must also add your HI drivers license number, and sign your name at the bottom of the application. Without a proper signature, the Hawaii DMV will be unable to process your address change request.
For Residents of Kauai County
Residents of Kauai County must change the address on their HI drivers license by contacting the Driver License Division at 808-241-4242. However, bear in mind you will need to request a duplicate drivers license to receive one that reflects your new address. Follow the step-by-step process to get a drivers license replacement in Kauai County to ensure that you receive your new driving credential without delay.
